Hello, hello!

I'm sitting at work at City Center right now. There's not much to be done, so I'm listening to Dorothy Loudon sing “Fifty Percent” from Ballroom. It's a brilliant song, the show may have been a flop, but this song is a masterpiece.

On the performance front, I had my first rehearsal for Goldilocks yesterday afternoon. It's being put up by the Opening Doors Theatre Company at The Duplex in September. It was a flop in 1958 starring Elaine Stritch. I was listening to the cast recording, and Elaine sounds fantastic. (Sidebar, I was recently made aware that Elaine Stritch was in the national tour of Mame as Mame and also Vera Charles). Anyways, I'm really excited about Goldilocks. The cast is really good, and I actually like the music. Keep checking out the ODTC website for more information.

As for auditions, I've been keeping myself pretty busy lately. I've done a good job at getting myself a lot of appointments, and from there, a good amount of callbacks. I haven't been to too many open calls, but this week, I'm going to three. I'm most excited about the ECC for Gypsy. I know the production like the back of my hand, so I'm hoping they like what they hear and invite me back to dance. If not, I'll go to the dance call in September. I'm getting less and less nervous about going into the room to audition. I'm finally settling into what songs are best and what doesn't usually work. It's so exciting!

What else? Oooh!! Some friends of mine from AMDA recently founded a theatre company, Company 1B, and they've invited me to join the board. It's very exciting to be on this side of the process. Our first show, Lucky Stiff, will be opening in October at the Sage Theatre, just north of the Palace Theatre in Times Square. There's a good chance that I'll be given the privilege of directing the next production, but nothing is set in stone at this point.

I'll try to wrap this up, I tend to ramble. So here are a few final tidbits. I saw Liza Minnelli in concert at the beginning of the month. She was kind of a mess, but a true entertainer. She sang for about an hour and a half, and was dressed like she did back in the day. My 23rd birthday is in 19 days....not sure how I feel about it yet. And finally, congrats to my roommate, Britt Johnson, for a successful opening night of Hair in Asbury Park, NJ. The show runs through the end of the month.

Curtain up, light the lights, you've got nothing to hit but the heights!!!
